Brain Dough

It’s so much more than play dough. When a child plays with dough, the brain is actually building new connections.

The smell and texture of scented play dough triggers a child’s senses, improving cognitive development, as well as language and fine motor skills. A child’s imagination and creativity is sparked through hands-on play. Sensory experiences can also have a calming effect on children, helping them regulate emotions and relieve stress.

Sensory play has become a necessary integration in classrooms. It used to be that children spent most of their time exploring the outdoors, though that is now largely replaced by screen time. As a teacher, I want to create opportunities to help that deficit by adding sensory content into our routine.

Let’s give our children the benefits of sensory play!
